A new book by Galyna Sklyarenko entitled Modern Art of Ukraine. Portraits of Painters was inaugurated at the 5th Kyiv Book Fair on the 24th of April. The book comprises essays about the most renowned modern Ukrainian painters and is illustrated with photocopies of their artworks. The protagonist of the book is the oeuvre, and the characters are famous Ukrainian painters who have been active over the last decades, including Anatoly Kryvolap, Alexander Royitburd, Maxim Mamsikov, Vlada Ralko and Oleg Tistol. None of these painters has probably been portrayed so accurately and profoundly before. The essays are much more than mere biographies. They describe the development of Modern art in Ukraine, its features, types, shapes, artistic languages. That is why the book will be of interest for both general and professional audiences.
The publication was initiated and financially supported by the famous curator and art dealer Igor Abramovich. He sees this book as an opportunity to promote Modern art of Ukraine. The book was published by the family-run Huss publishing house with the assistance of its owner Kostyantyn Kozhemyaka.
