Winner of the Person of the Year national award in the nomination Artist of the Year

In 2011, Anatoly Kryvolap was awarded the national Person of the Year prize in the nomination Artist of the Year. Shortly afterwards, he became the first Ukrainian artist featured on the Forbes’ front cover. They say, such acclaim could only be possible as a result of his international recognition. In particular, the overwhelming success of his “Horse. Night”, “Horse. Evening” and “March Evening” sales at the world’s most renowned auction houses. However, more appropriate would be to stress his continuous creative achievements to perfection and unrivalled accomplishments.

Winner of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize in the nomination Fine Arts for the set Ukrainian Motif

On 9 March 2012, Taras Shevchenko’s 198th birthday anniversary, the Shevchenko National Prize Award Ceremony took place in Kaniv. Anatoly Kryvolap was awarded in Fine Arts nomination for his Ukrainian Motive cycle, which included 50 abstract landscapes. The whole cycle consists of seven series of paintings celebrating the beauty of Ukrainian nature – from the Crimea and the Carpathians to the artist’s beloved sceneries of the Kyiv region. The Horse. Night painting, created in 2009, is one of the Horse series of works, commenced in 2005. The artist got inspiration from a horse, seen in Zasupoyivka village, its silhouette could hardly be distinguished in the darkness of the night, which only made this image even more alluring. The artwork fetched £79,250 beating the pre-sale estimate of £30,000–50,000. A month prior to the auction, the painting had been presented at the exhibition dedicated to mark the 20th anniversary of the Modern Art Institute.

Anatoly Kryvolap’s painting Orange Evening had been in a private collection in Ukraine before it was put up for auction at Christie`s. The artwork dated 2004 renders a Ukrainian evening in orange colours, unusual for the artist. With the painting Steppen Kryvolap came into the American art market. The painting fetched $98,500 beating Phillips pre-sale estimate of $30,000–40,000. This artwork was created in 2009 and only exhibited at the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv during the painter’s solo exhibition Structures on 27 March – 9 April

Kryvolap’s debut at Phillips was fairly modest, in comparison to his future success auction sales, though indeed lucky. The painting Moon over River sold for £30,000 with the pre-sale estimate being £20,000–25,000. It was created in 2009, as one of the Kaniv series of paintings.
